I am a passionate conservationist and always strive to get people to do something to stop the decline of species or to recognise the value of these themselves. Making science understandable for everyone is one of my main tasks, including environmental education for children. We are currently working with a colleague in India to produce a children's book that explains the value of wild animals to children and young people in some of India's traditional ethnic groups in order to preserve them for future generations. Beforehand a second wirkshop is planned within the rural communities to raise awareness on protecting wildlife, specifically hunting species nationally protected, such as monitor lizards.
The money provided will be used primarily to finance the trip to the ethnic groups, to hire and pay an illustrator of Indian origin and to print a first edition of the children's book in the local language, Hindi and possibly English.
